SAFETY PINS AND PAPERCLIPS.....LO

Well, here's how I finally did it, LOL.I opened up my background paper. Added a tag. Added one copy of my paper clip ( I don't quite get why to do the "sandwich" thing?) and one other piece of paper. Brought the paper clip to the top layer. Then, with the paper clip selected, I chose "Effects>Transparency>Transparency Brush. I selected 100% transparency and a brush size that would work for "erasing" what I didn't want to show. Then I erased the center part of the paper clip. Here's a tutorial that I follow for ribbons and saftely pins, etc...
Maybe it will help you out.

Subject: Positioning Font

For the journaling font, I simply did the entire journaling, then positioned it, then went back and highlighted the part on the green and changed the color.

The title was a bit trickier because it is on a circle edge, but not difficult at all really. I just duplicated the layer for "raining" and changed one layer to the second color.

Then I did a control click on the layer that is the oval to get marching ants around it (PSE). I grabbed my eraser and erased the text within the selection..the selection keeps the eraser from erasing anything ouside of the selection.

Then I inversed the selection and erased on the other layer of text that was outside of the oval.

Printing LO's site suggestion!
The best deal I have found is http://www.shinynickels.com/

12.5 x 12.5 prints for $1.99 each. I liked the color quality. They print on a heavy semi glossy cardstock. If you like your layouts very glossy, this is not the site you want. It is a semi gloss. I have used them before and I will definately use them again.

Subject:Layering Photos for a B&W with a tiny bit of color:
OK, there are 3 layers to the photo.

Bottom layer: B&W with gaussean blur -- enough to be soft, but still be able to distinguish all the features. I think it's 3, but there's no way to tell.

Middle layer: Color with "Soft light" layer option (I'm not sure how to achieve this in your program). It's at 100% opacity. It may be slightly blurred (1 pixel gaussean?), but I can't tell for sure.

Top layer: B&W, no blur. Also has a "soft light" layer option applied to it. Oh crap... in looking closer.... I converted this to more of a line drawing so that it LOOKS like it's B&W. THEN I did the soft light layer option.

Subject :Another Way to do Paperclips!
I was fighting with a digital paperclip yesterday, and I discovered an "easier" way to do the shadow than the dodge and burn tools. At least I think it's easier. This is in Photoshop CS2, but hopefully it will be easily converted to your program! I hope I can put on an effective "teacher hat" -- since I'm usually horrible at giving directions. If anything needs clarifying, please let me know and I'll try to explain. Or I'll have Hummie translate for me! ;)

1) Place your paperclip into position.
2) Select the portion of the paperclip that is supposed to go BEHIND the paper/photo. Make sure that it STOPS at the edge of the paper (i.e. don't select any additional parts of the clip than what's behind the paper)
3) Hit CTRL+J to put that portion into a new layer of its own.
4) On the original WHOLE paperclip layer, delete the part of the paperclip that is supposed to go behind the paper/photo (this should be the same selection you just copied to a new layer.
5) On the NEW LAYER -- the layer with the tiny section of the paperclip -- go to FILTER --> BLUR --> GAUSSEAN and do a gaussean blur of about 10 pixels -- enough to make it look shadowy.
6) While still on that layer, reduce the opacity of the entire layer to somewhere around 40-50% -- whatever looks good to you and most like a shadow.
Additional Note:
Just a small clarification that may be helpful. What Sarah means by "shadow" is that these instructions will help you make the area where the part of the paperclip that is under the paper look realistic in that it is pushing up on the paper. The part of the paperclip underneath a paper will make that area of the paper have lighten shadows (dodge tool) where it is the highest and darkened shadows (burn tool) where lowest, creating the effect of a realistic bump on the paper.

Re: ~~Flaming Text Tutorial
found a neat tutorial that shows you how to make flaming text. I used it on a layout I made of me and my dear hubby. You might be surprised at what you could use that for.

And here is the tutorial link: http://www.moesrealm.com/photoshop/flaming.html

The tut is for PS but might be usable in PSE
~ the font thing

http://www.download.com/The-Font-Thing/3000-2316_4-1519711.html

I really like it, Amy, and I think it's pretty easy. I like to keep all my fonts there except the ones I use frequently. Then I type in the "phrase" I want to add to a LO and scroll down all the fonts to test it out. Then I install the one I liked best for that given phrase. Uninstall it when I've printed. I just store all the .ttf files in a folder on my C drive instead of installing them on my harddrive. The program installs them as I tell it to.
Wire Tutorial
I'm looking around for tutorials.... here's a wire word tutorial... I guess you could make it a different color and it would have a sort of "gel" look to it.

DVD Software!

Last Night I used search engines and hunted around for a good program to make a slide show with. I found out that Microsoft makes one, and it appears to work pretty good.

It is called Photo Story 3. I got it from Microsoft's web site. The best part is that I paid nada for it.

Motion Blur
Kendra, you asked me in one email how I did the motion blur, and for the life of me, I can't find that email again! I'm not ignoring you, I'm just looking in vain for the brain I lost! :) I mean the email I lost. :)

Anyway, to get the motion blur, I put Gavin's picture in 3 layers....
Top layer: erase the white background and leave his body and the bike as it is.
Middle layer: erase the white background and apply FILTER --> MOTION BLUR --> 50 PIXELS (or whatever looks good) -- and I made sure that the blur was horizontal.
Bottom layer: apply FILTER --> MOTION BLUR --> 100 PIXELS -- again make it horizontal

The motion blur goes both left and right, so then I had to go in on the middle and bottom layer and erase the blur from the right side of the photo. That was no problem. I also blended those two layers -- I think I did "OVERLAY" -- so that the blurs blended together a bit better. It really was a 5 minute process.

I'm glad you didn't use that technique on the card, but it's definitely a fun filter to use on other LOs such as making balls "move" or legs "run" or something else to give action to a LO.

Photoshop Video Tutorial
You may remember me passing along recently the link to the lady at SBE who is offering podcast tutorials for photoshop. I've been playing with it and it is really cool! They downlaod to iTunes on my computer and stay there! And if you subscribe, everytime I start iTunes, it will download another one.

I found this morning another photoshop tutorial ipod to subscribe to. You can go here to do that.
